Unique and rather eye-catching stone drop brooch. Silver tone pewter metal. Thin, horizontal bar with traditional joint/hinge clasp. Hollow, ornately carved posterior. Features a carved face at the bar, and a suspension dropped simulated turquoise, glass stone cab. On both sides of the elongated oval glass stone are two Makara, fish-dragon hybrids. The Makara are traditional Hindu mythological belief. They are known as the guardians of gateways and thresholds. They are placed strategically, protecting throne rooms as well as entryways to temples. Circa is unknown. Style has characters similarly associated with antique jewelry making. Assumed guesstimation is pre-midcentury. Confirmed authentic vintage.
