Product description

Older stamped DF Briggs gold tone sweetheart bracelet. This bracelet predates WW1. Measures approximately 2 inches in diameter unstretched. Fits up to a 6.5 inch wrist, meant to sit tight in wrist. Excellent condition with some patina, as expected due to its age.

Sweetheart bracelet made by the D.F. Briggs Company dates from the late 1800s to the World War I era. It features Victorian-style bright-cut engraving, attached to an expansion band. The band has S-shaped links, every other one engraved. The company called this bracelet the "Carmen."

Stamped on the inside: "MADE IN U.S.A. / CARMEN / THE D. F. B. CO. / DE LUXE"

Sweetheart bracelets" of this style were originally sold by the D.F. Briggs Company in the late 1800s. Originally they were intended for babies and little girls, but they became so popular that the company began making them for grown women, with the marketing slant that a soldier or sailor would give it to his wife or girlfriend when going off to war, as a remembrance.
